PROJECT M A P S
PROJECT B E N E F I T S
For years, Coachella Valley Association of Governments (CVAG) has planned for the regional synchronization of traffic signals, the modernization and standardization of hardware and software, and future of intelligent transportation system infrastructure (ITS) in the Coachella Valley. In 2015, CVAG released its Request for Proposals (RFP) for the signal synchronization project that stated, “When the project is complete, it is expected to rival any similar project in the country and be as unique as it is bold in scope.” Through the preparation of the Master Plan, CVAG identified the top three primary corridors – Highway 111, Washington Street and Ramon Road – and another 18 secondary corridors for traffic signal synchronization upgrades. CVAG’s signal synchronization program includes a fiber optic backbone along the 21 corridors, and ultimately, an additional 49 other corridors in the region. It also will include sophisticated data gathering tools such as sensors and cameras to begin development of critical real-time information.
